According to the French Ministry for the environment Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet “the futur for city is for small cars and electric cars”. 8 cities (Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Nice, Grenoble, Clermont-Ferrand, Aix-en-Provence and Saint-Denis) will test the implementation of ZAPA: areas that limit or prohibit full access to polluting vehicles.

Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet
Are concerned by this measure:
• Cars manufactured before 1997 (about 8 million vehicles);
• Two-wheelers and Trucs too old to be equipped with particulate filter (nearly 2 million vehicles) .
This measure could applied next year. This system will be implemented as a test by 2012, for a period of three years. If the experiment succeeds, Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet decide to generalize these areas throughout France.
More than 160 European cities have already implemented such actions and showed that it was possible to reduce 20 to 30% pollution by banning traffic polluting vehicles. The challenge is both environmental and health because air pollution is responsible for 400,000 premature deaths each year in Europe according to WHO.

Nissan UK : Finally on the road!
Nissan Leaf new driving experience and several unexpected advantages!
European commission has recently adopted new rules in favor of Electric Vehicles (see recent posts category EU Commission News). The future is green and concret actions happenning now!

The fuel price increase, more and more countries adopt rules to limit the CO2 emission and the mentalities change. Now some people argue that Electric Vehicle is just another project without real support, for some Electric Vehicle is too expensive. But they did not take into account several adavantages. In UK LEAF “Car of the year” just arrive, you can order one directly on this website : http://www.nissan-zeroemission.com/EN/LEAF/regional.html; this amazing car for exemple receive several advantages such as exemption of registration tax, exemption of showroom tax, first-year excise duty on new vehicles and direct cash incentives with 25% vehicle price up to 5000£ (5803€), a benefit charge for five years (3000£); free / discount car insurance, free discount parking, exemption guarantee of congestion charge 1700£ (2000€) / year in London, toll exemption in London.

It is just a beginning today in UK or in Germany you have “Low Emission Zone” to discourage heavy diesel vehicles. It is just a beginning and you can be sure that tomorrow the current taxes against diesel will increase. You still have the choice!
